The Rear Ballast Weight kit was designed to solve a tractor safety issue, to counter balance the payload of your front end loader (FEL). Weight at the rear wheels is essential for traction and prevents your tractor from tipping.

It’s offered in two models where the framework holds either (1) or (2) 30 gallon trash cans offering approximately 275 lbs. of sand ballast per trash can. It’s an inexpensive solution to your ballast requirements and convenient to ship via UPS for a low total installation cost.

Several current approaches exist, each having a downside:
• Loaded rear tires are a common method but can excessively compact your lawn, septic field or garden/food plot. Another negative aspect is; it cannot be easily removed when not required.

Using a rear blade or other 3 point implement is another solution, utilizing existing equipment. The downside is their bulky nature makes it difficult to maneuver in tight places.

• Weight boxes or conventional tractor weights are expensive while some sort of support framework needs to be built. Not everyone is a skilled fabricator! Until now, purchasing one was not only costly, but having it shipped to you was expensive and a hassle.

The RBW kit is inexpensive approach and convenient to ship. Assembly is simple using common wrenches, just purchase sand and 30 gallon galvanized trash can(s) locally.

The trash can rests on an “X” frame and is held on location with leg brackets. Its rugged black powder coated framework resists rust and discoloration. Supplied with the kit are zinc plated eyebolts and fasteners. A nylon coated cable loops through the trash can handles for stability. It features a 2” square receiver tongue for mounting. It is intended for off-road use only and is not to be mounted on highway vehicles!

Bad River’s ballast solution is a “do-it yourself” kit for attachment to your tractor’s 3 point hitch system using our BR 70212 hitch receiver adapter. Two models are available; designed to hold either a single or pair of 30 gallon trash cans that will be filled with sand.

The Rear Ballast Weight kit has (4) legs for unit storage when not in use. Just back it into storage position, lower the legs and unhook!

Bad River’s “do-it yourself” Rear Ballast Weight (RBW) kit solution consists of:

• A bolt together components kit supplied by Bad River
• Locally purchased 30 gallon galvanized trash can(s) which are industry standard having an 18” diameter bottom from you nearest hardware or big box store.
• Filling it with sand or concrete ballast purchased from your local retailer

The Rear Ballast Weight kit models are:

BR 70243 – “X” framework to hold a single trash can, providing approximately 275 pounds of ballast. We suggest this single trash can model be used on sub-compact utility tractors.

BR 70244 – “X” framework to hold a pair of trash cans, providing approximately 550 pounds of ballast. We suggest this model holding a pair of trash cans be used on compact utility tractors. The Rear Ballast Weight kit is a compact design positioned close to the rear of the tractor for easy maneuverability. It’s simple, easy to assemble design makes this “do-it-yourself” kit an affordable solution. It’s inexpensive and convenient to ship for a low total kit cost.
